Dr. Charles F. Westhoff

Charles F. Westoff is Professor of Demographic Studies And Sociology, and Faculty Associate, Office of Population Research at Princeton University. He specializes in fertility and family planning research in developing countries (recently Africa) and population policy.

Mr. Westoff has served as President of the Population Association of America; Consultant for World Fertility Survey; Consultant for UNESCO: on the Boards of Directors, Planned Parenthood Federation of America and for the Population Resource Center; and on the Visitors Committee on Harvard-MIT Joint Center for Urban Studies.

His work has appeared in such notable publications as Family Growth in Metropolitan America, Teenage Pregnancy in Industrialized Countries, The Third Child, Populations Studies, among others.

As a member of the Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences, and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Westoff received his A.B. and his M.A. from Syracuse University in 1950. He then went on to obtain his Ph.D from the University of Pennsylvania in 1953.
