N. Wasserheit, M.D., M.P.H. Dr. Wasserheit is currently the Director of the Division of STD Prevention, at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), where she is responsible for developing and directing CDC's national STD prevention program and related behavioral epidemiologic and health services research. Prior to her appointment at CDC in 1992 Dr. Wasserheit served as the first Chief of the newly established Sexually Transmitted Diseases Branch of the National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Wasserheit, who is an internist and infectious disease expert, has published widely on clinical and epidemiology aspects of sexually transmitted disease and women's reproductive health. Her research has focused on these issues, particularly among women in the United States and the developing world. She has worked extensively in Asia, as well as in selected countries in Africa and Latin America. From 1986 to 1989, Dr. Wasserheit was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and also served as Assistant Chief of STD Clinical Services with the Baltimore City Health Department. Prior to that she conducted research on reproductive tract infections at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR, B). Dr. Wasserheit received her bachelor of arts from Princeton University, her Medical Degree from Harvard Medical School, and her Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins University of Hygiene and Public Health.
