Mark D. Smith, M.D., M.B.A.
Executive Vice President of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation

Mark D. Smith, M.D., M.B.A. is Executive Vice President of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation where he is responsible for the Foundation's Poverty and Health program. Dr. Smith is also a member of the clinical faculty at University of California at San Francisco. Prior to joining the Kaiser Family Foundation, Dr. Smith was Associate Director of the AIDS Service and Assistant Professor of Medicine and Health Policy and Management at John Hopkins University.

Dr. Smith is a board-certified internist and has been widely involved in AIDS issues throughout his career. He served as Executive Director of Philadelphia Commission on AIDS from 1987-88 and currently serves on the Food and Drug Administration Antiviral Drugs Advisory Committee. Dr. Smith also chairs the Center for Disease Control and Prevention Advisory Committee on the Prevention of HIV Infection and has published and lectured on AIDS and related issues.

After receiving his M.D. at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Chapel Hill, Dr. Smith received an M.B.A. from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He trained in Internal Medicine at the University of California at San Francisco and the University of Pennsylvania.
