Edward W. Pitt

Edward W. Pitt is a Senior Research Associate and Director of the National Practitioners Network for Fathers and Families at the Families and Work Institute in New York City.

He brings to his present work more than twenty-five years of experience developing and testing innovative approaches for tackling complex health and social problems including juvenile delinquency, infant mortality, teenage pregnancy, and AIDS. For twelve years Ed Pitt was Director of Health and Social Welfare at the National Urban League. During that period, he spearheaded the Urban League's development of a broad perspective on men and family-related issues.

Ed was a Delegate to the White House Conference on the Family and has organized and convened three national conferences on the theme "Manhood and Fatherhood". He has been a resource consultant to numerous foundations, including the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Ford Foundation, and the Council of Foundation Executives. Most recently, Ed served on the Secretary's Advisory Committee on Services to Infants and Toddlers and was appointed to the Advisory Board of the National Ready to Learn Project, sponsored by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Ed Pitt has appeared on numerous television and radio talk and news programs including Bill Moyers Journal, ABC Evening News, and CBS Night Watch. He is co-author (with Dr. James A. Levine) of the book, New Expectations: Community Strategies for Responsible Fatherhood.
