Guatemala
With over 11.7 million inhabitants and a 2.4% growth rate, Guatemala has one of the highest teenage pregnancy in the region. The most affected are the indigenous community who represents 41% of the population. The lack of information and access to public service providers with cultural awareness are one of the main factors. In addition, Guatemala has the third highest rate in HIV/AIDS in the region.
Environmental resources in Guatemala are concentrated in private hands. 20% of the richest population owns the 64% of the national natural resources. Environmental issues for Guatemala include water pollution and soil erosion, having a mayor deforestation impact in the country’s Petén rainforest.
