Peru - Empezando a Vivir

December 1, 2005 through the end of February 2006 , our new adolescent-themed radio show, produced in cooperation with our local partner Calandria (www.calandria.org.pe), will be broadcasting every day on Radio Union in Lima Peru . Live shows will be broadcast on Sundays from 4-5:30 p.m. with reruns daily Monday through Saturday 9-10 p.m.

This new magazine-radio format show is targeted at adolescents and youth is called " En Buena Onda" which literally means "Good Wave" but it is also local teenage slang for "cool!"  Check out the show's spanish language website: www.enbuenaonda.net.

Each show features two episodes of a soap opera called " Empezando a Vivir" meaning “Beginning to Live.” The show's main themes are sexual and reproductive health and rights (particularly family planning and the prevention of STIs and HIV/AIDS); sexual abuse and violence; and the importance of inter-generational communication. This production follows last season’s 90 minute radio show called “Loma Luna.”

PCI-Media Impact was in Peru in November, and together with our partner Calandria, trained 20 radio stations from Peru , Ecuador , Chile , and Colombia in an effort to encourage them to rebroadcast this radio drama and teach them about the power of entertainment education as community development tool. As a result, we hope to be on the air with an estimated additional 20 new stations throughout Peru and the Andean Highlands region of South America beginning this December/January .
