In Quito, Ecuador, Carlos shares his personal history with domestic violence, peer pressure, and drug use to educate other teens about important health issues. Meanwhile, in the rural Ecuadorian town of Pindal, Bolivar Jumbo, 29, is serving his first term as the youngest mayor in Ecuador's history. What do these three influential people have in common?
All are participants in Media Impact’s My Community program, which fuses the power of storytelling, the ubiquity of mass media, and the cultural understanding of local organizations to promote social change in seven Latin American countries. So far this year, we have trained eight teams, comprised of more than 600 leaders from 64 different community-based organizations, to use Entertainment Education communication strategies to address local needs.
