We thank all our previous alumni for their hard work and dedication. Here are a few of our recent alumni.

Anne Deane
Programs Intern, 2008

Anne joined PCI-Media Impact as a summer intern in 2008. As an intern she is taking part in both the Programs Team, focusing on the launch of the Training of Trainers program, and the Development Team, working on advertising. Anne is currently pursuing her Bachelors Degree with a double major in English and Political Science at Duke University. 

Renee Rivas
Development Intern, 2008

Renee is currently pursuing a Bachelors degree in English, with a concentration in writing, at the College of Mount Saint Vincent and graduated in May 2008.  Renee works with PCI-Media Impact’s Development Staff to analyze impact evaluations, creating program profiles that highlight a program’s ability to create change in a community.  She has previous work experience in legal procedure, NYC law reform, and non-profit organizations for pubic education.

Melissa Noordervliet
Programs Intern, 2008

Melissa is a Communication Science student at the University of Amsterdam. While completing her thesis on the effectiveness of Entertainment- Education, Melissa came across studies documenting PCI-Media Impact’s influence and strength in the field, and decided to seek an internship with the organization. Melissa joined the Internship Program this year and will work with the Programs Staff on issues related to Latin America.  She has a great affinity for Latin America, traveling to various countries in the region, and, in 2002, working as a teaching assistant at a Guatemalan daycare. Melissa’s other areas of experience include organization of a photography festival, as well as film/video production.

Affandy Farooq
Programs Intern, 2008

Affandy is currently participating in PCI-Media Impact’s Internship program focusing on issues in Africa and Asia. Affandy, a 26 year old Afghan - New Yorker, came to the States from Afghanistan at the age of 12 in 1993. He has his Bachelors Degree in Speech Communications and Theatre Arts and is currently completing his Masters of History Education at City University of New York Queens College. Affandy is also an independent film writer/director who has made a feature film called “AL QAREM.” – www.alqaremthemovie.com. He loves to work in an environment where social concerns and development work are the priority at hand.

Max Paris
Communications Intern, Summer 2007

Maxence Paris has a mathematics degree from his hometown, Paris, France and earned a Bachelors degree in International Studies from Macalester College, Saint Paul, Minnesota. He had his first international experience from 1998 to 2000 at the United World College of Hong Kong where he tutored under-privileged children coming from Mainland China while preparing his baccalaureate. He has worked as an assistant producer and filmmaker in the French movie industry. He learned about PCI-Media impact through a New Yorker article which prompted him into rolling up his sleeves and intern for us.

Sylvia Torres
Development Intern, 2007

Sylvia joined PCI-Media Impact as a scholar researcher in the summer of 2007 as part of her Masters degree in Sustainable Development at the School for International Training. She is doing a case study focused on the monitoring and evaluation system implemented in PCI-Media Impact’s project in Honduras.

Sylvia has a Bachelors degree in Communication for Social Change – Journalism. She has work experience in Honduras, Costa Rica and Colombia. As part of an environmental project funded by World Wildlife Fund (WWF), she participated creating a communication strategy in the Pacific coast of Colombia. Also in Colombia, Sylvia was involved in the production of a video documentary, based on personal interviews, about the musical history of her home town Cali. In Costa Rica she joined the department of Communication and Education at the National Biodiversity Institute (INBio) to ensure scientific information was disseminated at different public levels; and in Honduras, Sylvia supported local NGO’s with communication strategies.

Clara Ibarra
Communications Intern, 2007-2008

Clara is a communications intern here at PCI-Media Impact. She worked on the documentary that a film production company is preparing on our team. Clara is a graduate student from Bogotá, Colombia currently pursuing a M.A. in Media Studies at the New School University graduated in May 2008.  At the New School I currently work as the Coordinator for a class of six sections called Foundations of Media Design.

Britt Fremestad
Development Intern, 2007

Britt is a Development Intern here at PCI-Media Impact. She earned a B.A. Degree from Bryn Mawr College in Growth and Structure of Cities with a concentration in Environmental Studies. During her undergrad work Britt spent a semester in China teaching English to a group of 30 Chinese children, age 6.

Mark Waters
Programs Intern, 2006

Mark graduated from the University of Texas, with a double major in the Social Sciences and Spanish Language. Speaking fluent Spanish and conversational Portuguese, Mark has chosen to focus on issues faced in Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula. Current projects include International Independent Community radio planning, as well as Educational and Social Development radio programming within Spanish speaking communities.  He has worked and traveled extensively throughout Spain and South America.

Francine Cohen
Programs Intern, 2006-2007

Fran grew up in New Jersey and is currently a senior at New York University, studying journalism and psychology. Previously she worked as a research assistant at NYU’s Department of Psychology, where she helped conduct research on a variety of topics in the field of social psychology. She also currently volunteers as a Health Educator with NYU’s branch of Peer Health Exchange, a non-profit organization that provides high school students with the skills and knowledge they need to make healthy decisions

Ana Maria Blanco
Programs Intern, 2006-2007

Ana Maria Blanco earned her degrees in law and conflict resolution in her hometown, Bogotá, Colombia. There she worked as a researcher in projects dealing with the Colombian armed conflict and with sexual and reproductive rights. She came to NYC in 2003, and upon finishing her M.A. in Latin American Studies and Journalism, she worked with different NGOs advocating for international justice and the protection of human rights around the world. Currently she is a PhD student in Political Science

Courtney Wan-Ying Ho
Development Intern, 2006

Courtney is a graduate of Wellesley College with a degree in Political Science and East Asian Studies  As a Development Intern at PCI-Media Impact, Courtney also prepared an evaluation of PCI-MI’s awarding winning television serial drama, Bai Xing.

Laura Sheinkopf
Programs Intern, 2006

Laura earned her B.A. from Dartmouth in Spanish Language and Cultural Society. Her research and analysis of national and international policies and frameworks related to reproductive and sexual health in Latin America were instrumental to the development of our programs in the Latin America Region. She also demonstrated excellent writing and communications skills, to the extent that she was regularly in direct communication with our partners and consultants.

Daniel Scheer
Development Intern, 2006

Daniel joined PCI-Media Impact’s  Development and Communications department in January 2006.  A graduate from Clark University, Daniel has experience in both international affairs and development and education.  After returning from a semester in London in 2004 where he worked as an intern with Amnesty International, Daniel completed his degree in international relations and economics in 2005.  Daniel is responsible for writing and managing grant proposals and reports, as well as promotional materials. 

Abigail Sanders
Programs Intern, 2006

Abby earned her degree from Middlebury College in International Studies with a focus on Latin America. She also studied in both Nicaragua and Mexico during her undergraduate work. She was involved in community based clinic work there. Abby will be entering medical school in the fall.

Shawna Dobbins
Programs Intern, 2005- 2006

Shawna earned her B.A. degree from New York University with a major in French Shawna is fluent in French and Japanese, she also worked on production and theatre projects while at NYU. During her internship with PCI-Media Impact Shawna will be working the Development Department

Melissa Kushner
Programs Intern, Summer 2005

Melissa has spent her entire career working in international development. Melissa’s experience has provided her with a deep understanding of multi-sector partnership building, heath infrastructure development, fundraising, and field research and organizational and program development. Positions at the United Nations Fund for International Partnerships, Hahn Associates, and Gay Men’s Health Crisis have made her a well-rounded development practitioner, giving her both hands-on and managerial experience. Melissa received her MPA from New York University and her BA from the University of Pennsylvania.

Kaitlyn Brown
Programs Intern, Summer 2005

Kaitlyn is a graduate of Seton Hall University. She spearheaded Seton Hall University’s first AIDS Awareness Week She led efforts to raise money for AIDS education in New Jersey and home-based care programs in Malawi at the AIDS Resource Center Ohio. She spent last semester in Dakar, Senegal where I interned with the Awa Association. Kaitlyn is fluent in French
