Enriqueta Valdez Curiel, MD, MS
Senior Consultant, Latin America Capacity Building - Mexico

Ms. Valdez Curiel is a radio producer, medical doctor, and professor of research at the University of Guadalajara ( Guzmán City campus) in Mexico . Born in Ameca, Jalisco to Mexican migrant worker parents, Ms. Valdez Curiel earned a medical degree from the University of Guadalajara and later earned a master’s degree in Community Development at the University of California at Davis , where she focused on rural women’s health. During this period, she began conducting qualitative research on entertainment-education (EE) radio programs, and later worked as a consultant to Radio Bilingüe (Bilingual Radio) in Salinas , California . Since 1998, she has worked on a variety of projects involving research and entertainment-education. She currently directs the project Radio ADO, an EE radio program developed and produced for-youth, by youth to promote sexual education in the city of Morelia , Michoacán, México.

Javier Ampuero
Senior Consultant/Latin America Capacity Building - Peru

Social Communication Bachelor from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. He is a specialist on strategic design and media for citizen participation. He currently works as the director of the HIV project Acción oriented to develop the capacities and communication resources in Latin America and the Caribbean; he is co-director of Loma Luna, a radio program and EE radionovela about sexual and reproductive health; he is director of La Pizarra, a communication specialized magazine; he created the Youth Short Story Competition, initiative that mobilized the public creativity and expression of thousands of young people between 1993 and 2000. He is also director of Calandria Production Center in the area of strategic design and media. He has also being consultant in developing strategies for youth participation for initiatives from institutions such as UNESCO Peru, UNICEF Chile and Kellog Foundation in Latin America.

Diana Ruiz Cerón
Consultant/Latin America Capacity Building - Mexico

Ms. Ruiz Cerón is the production coordinator for the youth radio program “Radio ADO” in Morelia , Michoacán, where she oversees a team of youth volunteers and is involved in various phases of production. She has worked in the production of university radio programs transmitted via internet and also has experience as a reporter and interviewer. She is a member of the Democracy and Sexuality network, and has participated in diverse forums and international conferences about sexuality and mass media. Ms. Ruiz Cerón earned a degree in Communications from Universidad Latina de América.

Humberto Rodas Aguilar
Consultant, Latin America Capacity Building - Guatemala

Humberto Isabel Rodas Aguilar is a social worker whose extensive career in radio began at the age of 16 in Peten , Guatemala . Currently, Mr. Rodas Aguilar works for Health Unlimited, a UK-based non-profit organization, directing radio and television productions for the Juventud Kiche project with adolescents and youth in Guatemala . Prior to this, he designed and coordinated a National Diagnostic of Community Radio Stations in Guatemala and was project coordinator for the Mujbablyol Association, where he directed and produced radio programs and campaigns. In the 1990s, he formed part of the award-winning production team at Radio Bilingüe in Fresno , California , as a volunteer host and producer. During his time at Radio Bilingue, he directed Radio Sin Fronteras (Radio Without Borders), produced Entertainment-Education health programs, coordinated news broadcasting, worked as a programming coordinator and consultant, and was a grantee of the Ford Foundation in Latino news. He has also worked as a reporter for Telemundo’s local affiliate TV station in Fresno . In 1998, Mr. Rodas Aguilar was awarded the “California Heroes” award in radio from the Latino coalition for education on tobacco use from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA).

Martin Anchivilca Pomacaja
Consultant/Latin America Capacity Building - Peru

Mr. Anchivilca, a Peruvian social communicator, is specialized in radio production, direction and capacity building. He has over 17 years of experience in production of educative radio programs, as well as in the design and production of pieces for radio campaigns. Several of Mr. Anchivilca’s projects on educative radio have received awards and distinctions. These include a distinction in the World Bank’s 2001 Small Donations Program, and other national awards in Peruvian events related to radio journalism and communications. Currently, he is the director and producer of the Center for Production and Strategies at PCI-Media Impact’s partner, CALANDRIA.

Luis Alberto Davila Loor
Consultant/Latin America Capacity Building - Ecuador

Mr. Davila is an agronomy engineer with a master’s degree in communications, internet and public policy. For more than 16 years he has managed projects and institutions where he has acquired wide experience in the phases of design, development, and implementation of communications projects. He was Executive Director for ALER (Latinamerican Association for Radio Education). His work in media and communications has received awards from organizations such as the UNESCO (2004), and the King of Spain (2000), among others. Mr. Davila has been a teacher for Radio Formats at UDLA University in Mexico and for Media and Communications in some universities of Ecuador , his native country.

Maria Dolores Garcia Vacas
Consultant/Latin America Capacity Building - Ecuador

Ms. García is a radio producer with wide professional experience in her native Ecuador as well as in other Latin American countries. After earning her degree in Teaching Sciences in her native Ecuador , Mr. Garcia has received several titles in communications and media, with emphasis in radio and education. Her academic and professional backgrounds have allowed her to develop capacity-building workshops that she has taught in Latin America , the U.S. , and Europe . She has worked on Entertainment-Education radio projects addressing issues such as sexual and reproductive health, children’s rights, armed conflicts, and women’s rights, among others.

Gilberto Garcia Gomez
Consultant/Latin America Capacity Building - Mexico

Gilberto Garcia Gomez was born in the Michoacán (Mexico), where he got his professional degree in journalism. He currently works as the producer for the project Radio ADO, which is transmitted through the University Radio Network of the University of Guadalajara, in Ciudad Guzman, Jalisco (Mexico).  Since 2003 he has worked in entertainment-education radio dealing with issues around sexual and reproductive health among youth. He received training in radio dramas from Radio Netherland, in Costa Rica, and recently, he has conducted radio workshops in Peru, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, and Bolivia.  Mr. García Gomez has also worked as a photographer and a reporter for the print media, and has attended several communication forums and conferences locally and internationally.
